For software partners

Put Form 2290 e-filing inside your product

For trucking management systems, fleet apps and dispatch software whose customers owe the heavy vehicle use tax. Your software collects the trucks, your customer signs, and the return goes to the IRS through Gideon’s transmitter — the same validator and the same acknowledgements as this site, over a small REST API. You stay in front of your customer; we file.

What it costs

$3a truck, capped at $15 a return

  • $500 a year, prepaid and credited in full toward filing fees. It is the minimum, not a fee on top: a partner whose returns come to $700 pays $700.
  • The cap is per return — one Form 2290, one EIN, one tax period — never per batch. Ten six-truck returns are ten fees of $15.
  • Nothing for checking a return, reading its status, fetching the Schedule 1, or re-sending one the IRS rejected.
  • No setup fee. The test site (IRS ATS) is free and files nothing to the real IRS.
  • Custom connectors and higher volumes are quoted separately.

These are Gideon’s service fees. The federal tax on each return is your customer’s and is paid to the IRS, never to Gideon.

The cap lands at 5 trucks; a VIN correction is free. The $500 commitment covers, for example, 33 returns at the cap or 166 single-truck returns.

Who does what

You bill your customers and take their first-line questions. Gideon prepares and e-files every return as the ERO, answers for the API and the transmission, and shows you each acknowledgement and stamped Schedule 1. You need no PTIN or EFIN, and none is assigned to you.

Not the preparer plan

The $180-a-year preparer plan is for an individual tax professional filing under their own PTIN and EFIN, with unlimited returns. The partner offer is for a software business embedding filing for its customers, paid per return. They are separate channels: neither is an upgrade of the other, and a preparer on a plan keeps exactly what they have.

How it works

  1. 1

    Create a partner account

Sign in, name your business, and pay the $500 commitment. Make an API key.

  2. 2

    Build against the test site

The same API on development.gideontax.com files to the IRS test system. Free, and nothing there reaches the real IRS.

  3. 3

    Check, sign, prepare, send

Validate as your user types, have the taxpayer sign Form 8879-EX in your app, prepare the return, then e-file it — once.

  4. 4

    Show the answer

Poll the return; when the IRS accepts it, fetch the stamped Schedule 1 and hand it to your customer.
