IRS Form 9465 — Installment Agreement Request
Can't pay your federal taxes all at once? Form 9465 asks the IRS to let you pay what you owe in monthly installments. We prepare and e-file it for you — free, in English and Spanish.

Form 9465 is the request you file to set up a monthly payment plan (installment agreement) with the IRS when you cannot pay your tax bill in full. You tell the IRS the total you owe, how much you can pay each month, and which day of the month works — and the IRS sets up the plan, usually with automatic monthly withdrawals from your bank account.
Who can use it?
- Individuals who owe federal income tax (Form 1040) and want to pay over time instead of all at once.
- Taxpayers who owe $50,000 or less in combined tax, penalties, and interest — and can pay it off within 72 months.
- Anyone who received a tax bill or notice they cannot pay in full by the due date.
- Filers who owe more (and complete the Part II financial-disclosure questions, or attach Form 433-F).
When to file
You can file Form 9465 any time — attach it to the front of your return, or send it on its own after you get a bill. Filing early limits the late-payment penalties and interest that keep accruing until the balance is paid in full.

The IRS charges its own user fee to set up an installment agreement (reduced or waived for low-income taxpayers, and lower for direct debit). That fee is paid to the IRS, not to us.
